A $17 dollar kitchen makeover...What?!!!!

While browsing through one of my favorite websites...HGTV's Rate My Space I ran into this little delight.  I was stunned...

Is it possible?

A kitchen remodel for $17?

How could this be?

This woman is my hero!!  Alas, someone who has found a way to do a kitchen remodel without breaking the bank!  I checked to see if she has a blog and sadly no, but wow would I love her to start one.  She is simply called Mamma4x and she lives in Lynchburg, VA.

So here is her short how to with pictures...

"This is what the kitchen in the house we are renting looks like now. I painted and glazed the cabinets. Made the cornice above the sink. And yes I painted the hideous green laminate countertops. I was scared to do it because I thought it might not last but it has. I figured it couldn't look any worse. Just because you don't have money doesn't mean you have to live with the ugly! Yes if I had money (I wouldn't be renting LOL I would gut the kitchen and put in granite and stainless steel appliances. But I did what I could with what I had."
"We are renting right now and this kitchen was GROSS! I couldn't live with it. The dark cabinets and the green laminate counter tops had to go! If I had money (and owned the house I would have done things differently....like granite, new appliances etc. But I did what I could to make it look better and it is all done with paint. Total project cost: $17.00."
"This is the kitchen before....(well I already started painting the cabinets Ugly brown cabinets and green laminate counter tops."
"The backsplash was an experiment. I used joint compound. I taped off the grout lines then spackled over everything then pulled the tape off while it was still wet. The joint compound gives it texture. I then sponge painted each tile. Next time I might try coloring the joint compound first. I think it looks okay from a distance but it has actually fooled people who came up and touched it. LOL "
Counter top before
"Counter top after. I primed then sponge painted (with acrylic paints from the craft store...the ones that cost .29 cents then sealed with polyurethane. "

All I can say is WOW!!
What a talented person to be able to pull this off.  I'm definitely inspired!
